Role:EnsemblePeriod:RomanticGenre:OrchestralCamerata Atlas is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is made up of six members: two violinists, a violist, a cellist, a clarinetist, and a pianist. The founding members of Camerata Atlas met while studying at the Juilliard School, one of the world's most prestigious music conservatories. They quickly discovered a shared love for chamber music and began playing together informally. As they continued to rehearse and perform, they realized that they had a unique chemistry and decided to form an official ensemble. The name "Camerata Atlas" was chosen to reflect the group's commitment to exploring a wide range of musical styles and traditions. The word "camerata" comes from the Italian word for "chamber," while "Atlas" refers to the Greek mythological figure who held up the world on his shoulders. The ensemble sees itself as a group of musicians who are dedicated to carrying the weight of the world's musical heritage and sharing it with audiences around the globe. Since its founding, Camerata Atlas has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals. In 2017, Camerata Atlas was invited to perform at the Ravinia Festival, one of the oldest and most prestigious music festivals in the United States. The ensemble's performance of Brahms's Clarinet Quintet was hailed as "a revelation" by the Chicago Tribune. In 2018, Camerata Atlas released its debut album, "Atlas," on the Naxos label.
