He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a violinist and his mother a pianist. Serei began playing the violin at the age of six and showed great talent from an early age. He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he was taught by renowned violinists such as Zoltán Székely and Dénes Kovács. After completing his studies, Serei began his career as a violinist, performing with various orchestras in Hungary and abroad. He also became interested in composition and began to write his own music. His early works were influenced by the Hungarian folk music tradition, which he had grown up with. In the 1980s, Serei became a member of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he played as a first violinist for many years. During this time, he continued to compose and his works began to gain recognition. In 1986, he won the Erkel Prize, one of the most prestigious awards for composers in Hungary, for his composition "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra". Serei's music is characterized by its lyrical and expressive qualities, as well as its use of traditional Hungarian folk melodies and rhythms. He has written works for a variety of ensembles, including orchestral works, chamber music, and solo pieces for violin and other instruments. One of Serei's most famous works is his "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra", which was premiered in 1985. The piece is a virtuosic showcase for the solo violin, with a lyrical and expressive first movement, a lively and rhythmic second movement, and a hauntingly beautiful slow movement. The concerto has been performed by many of the world's leading violinists, including Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell. Another notable work by Serei is his "String Quartet No. 1", which was composed in 1988. The piece is a tribute to the Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, whose influence can be heard in Serei's use of folk melodies and rhythms. The quartet is a complex and challenging work, with intricate counterpoint and shifting harmonies. Serei's music has been performed by many of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo String Quartet. He has also been a guest conductor with several orchestras, including the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Serei has also been a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and has given masterclasses and workshops around the world. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as performers and composers. Throughout his career, Serei has remained committed to the traditions of Hungarian music, while also incorporating elements of modernism and other musical styles into his work. His music is characterized by its emotional depth, technical virtuosity, and unique blend of folk and classical influences. Today, he is recognized as one of Hungary's most important composers and performers, and his music continues to be performed and celebrated around the world.More....
