Frank Amato was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a classical pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Amato showed a natural talent for music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Amato began his musical education at the age of five, studying piano with his father. He quickly progressed and began performing in public at the age of seven. At the age of ten, he started studying the violin, and by the age of twelve, he had already won several local competitions. In 1998, Amato was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied with renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman. During his time at Juilliard, Amato won several awards, including the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition and the New York State Music Teachers Association Competition. After graduating from Juilliard, Amato continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with violinist Pamela Frank. While at Curtis, Amato won the school's Concerto Competition and was chosen to perform with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra. In 2007, Amato made his debut with the New York Philharmonic, performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto under the baton of Lorin Maazel. The performance was a critical success, and Amato was praised for his virtuosic playing and musical sensitivity. Since then, Amato has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors of our time, including Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Gustavo Dudamel. In addition to his work as a soloist, Amato is also an active chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. He is also a founding member of the Amato Quartet, which has received critical acclaim for its innovative programming and virtuosic playing. Amato's recordings have received widespread critical acclaim. His recording of the Brahms Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra was named one of the best classical recordings of the year by The New York Times. His recording of the complete Beethoven Violin Sonatas with pianist Emanuel Ax was also highly praised, with Gramophone magazine calling it "a benchmark recording." Throughout his career, Amato has received numerous awards and honors. In 2010, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards for young musicians in the United States. He has also been awarded the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship and the Gilmore Young Artist Award. In addition to his performing career, Amato is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, and he currently serves on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music.
