Margot Rood is a renowned classical music artist known for her exceptional vocal range and versatility. Born in the United States, Rood grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her parents were both professional musicians, and her father was a conductor. Rood's love for music was evident from an early age, and she began singing in choirs and performing in musicals as a child. Rood's formal training in music began at the age of 16 when she enrolled in the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. She studied voice and music theory and was a member of the school's choir. After graduating from Interlochen, Rood attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. After completing her undergraduate studies, Rood continued her education at the Yale School of Music, where she earned a Master of Music degree in voice. During her time at Yale, Rood was a member of the Yale Schola Cantorum, a professional choir that performs a wide range of choral music. She also performed in several operas and other productions at the school. Rood's career as a professional musician began shortly after she completed her studies at Yale. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented soprano and was invited to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras and ensembles in the United States and Europe. Some of her most notable performances include singing the soprano solo in Handel's Messiah with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, performing in Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the Berlin Philharmonic, and singing in the world premiere of John Harbison's Requiem with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. In addition to her work as a soloist, Rood is also a member of several professional choirs and ensembles. She is a member of the Handel and Haydn Society, a Boston-based choir and orchestra that specializes in Baroque and Classical music. She is also a member of the Lorelei Ensemble, an all-female vocal ensemble that performs contemporary music. Rood's talent and dedication to her craft have earned her numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious Alice Tully Vocal Arts Debut Recital Award, which recognizes outstanding young singers. She has also been a finalist in several other vocal competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Joy in Singing Competition. Despite her success as a professional musician, Rood remains committed to her education and continues to study and learn new techniques and styles. She has studied with some of the most renowned vocal coaches and teachers in the world, including Dawn Upshaw, Roberta Alexander, and Sanford Sylvan. In addition to her work as a performer, Rood is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught voice and music theory at several universities and music schools, including the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is also a frequent guest lecturer and has given masterclasses and workshops at schools and universities throughout the United States.
