Odyssey Opera Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 2013 by conductor Gil Rose, the orchestra is dedicated to performing lesser-known operas and works by underrepresented composers. Gil Rose, a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, has conducted numerous orchestras and opera companies throughout the United States and Europe. He founded Odyssey Opera Orchestra with the goal of bringing attention to neglected works of the operatic repertoire. The orchestra's first performance was in September 2013, with a concert featuring selections from operas by Richard Wagner. Since then, Odyssey Opera Orchestra has performed a wide range of works, including operas by Franz Schreker, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Sergei Prokofiev. One of the orchestra's most notable performances was its 2015 production of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's opera "Die tote Stadt." The opera, which had not been performed in Boston in over 60 years, was met with critical acclaim and sold-out performances. In 2016, the orchestra was awarded the Best Opera Production award by the Boston Classical Review for its production of "The Emperor of Atlantis" by Viktor Ullmann. The same year, the orchestra was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording for its recording of "Les Troyens" by Hector Berlioz. The orchestra's main members include a mix of established musicians and rising stars in the classical music world. Some of the orchestra's notable members include soprano Jennifer Check, tenor Yeghishe Manucharyan, and baritone David Kravitz. Odyssey Opera Orchestra has also collaborated with a number of other organizations and artists, including the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and the Boston Children's Chorus.
