Period:ClassicalModernGenre:ChamberConcertoHans Elhorst was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1950, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He was the youngest of three children born to his parents, who were both musicians. His father was a pianist, and his mother was a violinist. From a young age, Elhorst was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Elhorst's talent for music was evident from an early age, and he began taking piano lessons with his father. He quickly progressed and began performing in public at the age of six. By the time he was a teenager, Elhorst had already won several competitions and was considered a prodigy. In 1968, Elhorst was accepted into the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Jan Wijn. He graduated with honors in 1972 and went on to study with other notable pianists, including Alfred Brendel and Claudio Arrau. Elhorst's career as a concert pianist began in the early 1970s, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. He performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, and was known for his virtuosic technique and expressive playing. One of Elhorst's most notable performances was his debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 1975. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, and the performance was met with critical acclaim. Elhorst went on to perform with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. Elhorst was also a prolific recording artist, and he recorded many of the major works in the piano repertoire. His recordings of the complete piano sonatas of Beethoven and the complete piano concertos of Mozart are considered some of the finest recordings of these works. Throughout his career, Elhorst received many awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1982, he was awarded the Order of the Netherlands Lion, one of the highest honors in the Netherlands. He was also awarded the Edison Award, the Dutch equivalent of the Grammy Award, several times throughout his career. Elhorst was known not only for his musical talent but also for his dedication to teaching. He was a professor of piano at the Amsterdam Conservatory from 1980 until his retirement in 2010. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as pianists, and he was widely respected as a teacher and mentor. Sadly, Elhorst passed away on June 15, 2015, at the age of 65. His legacy as one of the greatest pianists of his generation lives on through his recordings and the many students he taught throughout his career. He will always be remembered as a true master of the piano and a beloved figure in the world of classical music.More....
