Artist Info
Renata Pokupic is a renowned Croatian mezzo-soprano who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born on May 23, 1972, in Zagreb, Croatia, Pokupic grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a cellist, and her mother was a pianist, so it was only natural that she developed an interest in music at a young age. Pokupic began her musical education at the age of six, studying piano and music theory. However, it was not until she was 16 that she discovered her true passion for singing. She began taking voice lessons and quickly realized that she had a natural talent for singing. She went on to study at the Zagreb Academy of Music, where she received a degree in vocal performance. After completing her studies, Pokupic began her professional career as a soloist with the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. She quickly gained recognition for her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, and soon began receiving invitations to perform at major opera houses and concert halls around the world. One of Pokupic's most notable performances was her portrayal of the title role in Handel's "Ariodante" at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in 2006. Her performance was widely praised by critics, who noted her "rich, warm voice" and "impressive dramatic range." She went on to perform the role at the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House in London, cementing her reputation as one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of her generation. In addition to her opera performances, Pokupic is also a highly sought-after concert singer. She has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. She has also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Riccardo Muti. Throughout her career, Pokupic has received numerous awards and accolades for her performances. In 2007, she was awarded the Croatian National Theatre Award for her portrayal of the title role in "Carmen." She has also been awarded the Order of Danica Hrvatska, one of Croatia's highest honors, for her contributions to the arts. Despite her many accomplishments, Pokupic remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform regularly and is always looking for new challenges and opportunities to grow as an artist. Her passion for music and her commitment to excellence have made her one of the most respected and admired classical musicians of her generation.More....
