Gilda Capozzi was born on May 12, 1985, in Naples, Italy. She was born into a family of musicians, and her parents were both professional classical musicians. Her father was a pianist, and her mother was a violinist. From a young age, Gilda was exposed to classical music and began to show a natural talent for the violin. At the age of six, Gilda began taking violin lessons with her mother. She quickly progressed and began performing in local concerts and competitions. By the age of ten, she had won several regional competitions and was recognized as a rising star in the classical music world. In 1997, Gilda was accepted into the prestigious Conservatorio di Musica San Pietro a Majella in Naples. She studied under the guidance of renowned violinist Salvatore Accardo and graduated with honors in 2003. After completing her studies, Gilda began performing professionally as a soloist and chamber musician. She quickly gained a reputation for her virtuosic playing and expressive interpretations of classical works. In 2005, she won first prize at the International Violin Competition in Cremona, Italy, solidifying her place as one of the top young violinists in the world. Over the next few years, Gilda continued to perform in major concert halls and festivals around the world. She made her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2008, performing the Brahms Violin Concerto with the New York Philharmonic. The performance was met with critical acclaim, and Gilda was praised for her technical skill and emotional depth. In 2010, Gilda released her debut album, featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. The album received widespread praise and was nominated for several awards, including a Grammy for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. In 2012, Gilda was invited to perform at the BBC Proms in London, one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world. She performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra, receiving a standing ovation from the audience. In addition to her solo career, Gilda is also an accomplished chamber musician. She has performed with some of the world's leading ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Throughout her career, Gilda has been recognized for her contributions to classical music. In 2014, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians and provides financial support to further their careers. She was also named a MacArthur Fellow in 2017, receiving a "genius grant" for her exceptional talent and contributions to the arts. Today, Gilda continues to perform and record as a soloist and chamber musician. She is known for her passionate and expressive playing, as well as her commitment to promoting classical music to new audiences. She is widely regarded as one of the most talented and influential violinists of her generation, and her contributions to the classical music world are sure to be felt for years to come.
