Role:EnsembleTrio Concertante is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their virtuosic performances for over two decades. The trio consists of violinist Nancy Dahn, cellist Timothy Steeves, and pianist Serouj Kradjian. They are known for their dynamic and expressive interpretations of classical repertoire, as well as their commitment to commissioning and performing new works. Nancy Dahn and Timothy Steeves first met as students at the University of Toronto, where they both studied with renowned cellist and pedagogue, Vladimir Orloff. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began performing together as a duo. In 1993, they formed Trio Concertante with pianist Serouj Kradjian, who had also studied at the University of Toronto and was already an accomplished soloist and chamber musician. The trio's name, "Concertante," refers to a style of music in which the solo instrument is accompanied by an orchestra or ensemble. This reflects the trio's approach to chamber music, in which each member is given equal importance and contributes to the overall sound and interpretation of the music. Trio Concertante's early performances were met with critical acclaim, and they quickly established themselves as one of Canada's premier chamber ensembles. They have since performed extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, and have collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians and orchestras. One of the trio's most notable performances was at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, where they represented Canada in the Cultural Olympiad. They performed a program of Canadian music, including works by John Burge, Jacques Hétu, and R. Murray Schafer, to great acclaim. Trio Concertante has also been recognized for their commitment to new music. They have commissioned and premiered works by some of Canada's most prominent composers, including John Burge, Chan Ka Nin, and Andrew Staniland. In 2011, they released an album of works by Canadian composer Christos Hatzis, which was nominated for a Juno Award (Canada's equivalent of the Grammy Awards) for Classical Album of the Year. In addition to their performances and recordings, Trio Concertante is also committed to music education. They have given masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools throughout North America, and have served as artists-in-residence at several institutions, including Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of Toronto. Trio Concertante has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2005, they were awarded the prestigious Virginia Parker Prize by the Canada Council for the Arts, which recognizes outstanding contributions to Canadian classical music. They have also been nominated for several East Coast Music Awards and have received multiple nominations for the Juno Award. Despite their many accomplishments, Trio Concertante remains dedicated to their craft and to bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world. Their passion and commitment to their art form is evident in every performance, and they continue to inspire and captivate audiences with their virtuosic playing and dynamic interpretations.More....
