Samuel Moriarty was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Moriarty showed a natural talent for music, and he began taking piano lessons at the age of five. As he grew older, Moriarty became increasingly interested in classical music, and he began studying the works of composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. He also began taking lessons in other instruments, including the violin and the cello. In 2003, Moriarty was accepted into the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied piano under the renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Moriarty won several awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition and the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Moriarty began performing professionally, both as a soloist and as a member of various chamber music ensembles. One of Moriarty's most notable performances came in 2010, when he performed Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the New York Philharmonic.
