George Roberts was a renowned classical music artist who made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on March 22, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, to a family of musicians. His father was a trombonist, and his mother was a pianist. George showed an interest in music from a young age and started playing the trombone when he was just 12 years old. George's talent for music was evident from the beginning, and he quickly became a skilled trombonist. He attended Drake University in Des Moines, where he studied music and played in the school's jazz band. After graduating, George moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. In Los Angeles, George quickly established himself as a talented musician and began playing with some of the most prominent jazz bands of the time. He played with the bands of Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, and Henry Mancini, among others. George's skill on the trombone was widely recognized, and he became known for his smooth, melodic playing style. In addition to his work in jazz, George also had a passion for classical music. He began studying with the renowned trombonist Emory Remington and soon became a sought-after classical musician. George played with many of the top orchestras in the country, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. One of the highlights of George's career was his performance at the 1960 Newport Jazz Festival. He played with the Stan Kenton Orchestra and was featured in a solo performance that was widely praised by critics and audiences alike. The performance helped to establish George as one of the top trombonists in the world. Over the course of his career, George received many awards and honors for his contributions to music. He was inducted into the International Trombone Association's Hall of Fame in 1981 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Jazz Journalists Association in 2003. In addition, George was a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and served on the board of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Despite his success, George remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to perform and record music well into his 70s, and his influence on the world of music can still be felt today. George Roberts passed away on September 20, 2014, at the age of 86, but his legacy as one of the greatest trombonists of all time lives on.
