Ron McCroby was born on August 31, 1933, in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in a musical family, with his father playing the trumpet and his mother playing the piano. McCroby started playing the trumpet at the age of nine and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. McCroby attended the University of Washington, where he studied music and played in the university's marching band. After graduating, he joined the United States Army and served as a member of the Army Band. During his time in the Army, McCroby continued to hone his skills as a trumpet player and began to develop a reputation as a talented musician. After leaving the Army, McCroby moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. He quickly became a sought-after session musician, playing on recordings for a variety of artists and working on film and television soundtracks. McCroby's trumpet playing can be heard on the soundtracks for movies such as "The Godfather" and "Chinatown." In addition to his work as a session musician, McCroby also began to perform as a solo artist. He released several albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including "Ron McCroby Plays Trumpet" and "Ron McCroby Plays the Music of Henry Mancini." McCroby's albums showcased his virtuosic trumpet playing and his ability to interpret a wide range of musical styles. McCroby's reputation as a solo artist continued to grow, and he began to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the country. He performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Pops, and the New York Philharmonic, among others. McCroby's performances were always well-received, and he quickly became known as one of the top trumpet players in the country. In addition to his work as a performer, McCroby was also a respected educator. He taught at the University of Southern California and the California Institute of the Arts, and he was a frequent guest lecturer at universities and music schools throughout the country. McCroby was known for his ability to inspire and motivate his students, and many of his former students went on to have successful careers in music. Throughout his career, McCroby received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of music. He was inducted into the International Trumpet Guild Hall of Fame in 1995, and he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Jazz Education Network in 2012. McCroby's legacy as a musician and educator continues to inspire new generations of musicians, and his contributions to the world of classical music will be remembered for years to come.
