She was born on May 31, 1940, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and grew up in a musical family. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist, and they encouraged her to pursue music from a young age. Loomer began her musical education at the age of six, studying piano and voice. She later attended the University of British Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1962. After completing her studies, Loomer began her career as a music educator, teaching at various schools and universities in Canada and the United States. She also worked as a conductor and composer, and her work was widely recognized for its excellence and innovation. One of Loomer's most significant contributions to the classical music world was her work with the Elektra Women's Choir, which she founded in 1987. Under Loomer's direction, the Elektra Women's Choir performed at numerous prestigious venues and events, including the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The choir also released several critically acclaimed recordings, including "Pure Elektra" and "Northern Lights." In addition to her work with the Elektra Women's Choir, Loomer was also a sought-after guest conductor and clinician, working with choirs and orchestras around the world. She was known for her ability to inspire and motivate musicians, and her passion for music was evident in all of her performances. Loomer's contributions to the classical music world were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout her career.
