Born on August 22, 1979, in the town of Sliema, Malta, Schembri showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. Schembri's talent was quickly recognized, and he began studying with renowned violinists in Malta and abroad. He attended the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree with honors. He then went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he earned a Master of Music degree with distinction. Throughout his career, Schembri has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Manchester Camerata, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. One of Schembri's most notable performances was his debut as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2005. He performed the violin concerto by Felix Mendelssohn, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. The Times called his performance "a triumph," and The Guardian praised his "dazzling technique and musicality." Schembri has also been recognized for his work as a conductor. He has conducted many orchestras, including the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Manchester Camerata, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. In 2010, he was appointed the principal conductor of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held until 2014.
