Artist Info
Fanny Vicens is a French classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a virtuoso accordionist. Born in 1985 in Toulouse, France, Vicens grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her father was a jazz pianist and her mother was a classical pianist, and they both encouraged her to pursue music as a career. Vicens began playing the accordion at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied at the Conservatoire de Toulouse and later at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she earned a degree in accordion performance. Throughout her career, Vicens has been recognized for her exceptional talent and has won numerous awards and accolades. In 2008, she won first prize at the International Accordion Competition in Castelfidardo, Italy, and in 2010, she was awarded the prestigious Prix de la Fondation Cziffra, which recognizes outstanding young musicians. Vicens has also been a frequent performer at major music festivals around the world, including the Festival d'Automne in Paris, the Festival de Musique de Besançon, and the Festival de Musique de Menton. She has collaborated with many renowned musicians and ensembles, including the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Orchestre National de France, and the Quatuor Diotima. One of Vicens' most notable performances was her debut recital at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in 2012. The concert featured works by contemporary composers such as Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, and Salvatore Sciarrino, and showcased Vicens' virtuosity and musical sensitivity. The performance was widely praised by critics and established Vicens as one of the leading accordionists of her generation. In addition to her performances as a soloist, Vicens is also a dedicated chamber musician and has collaborated with many different ensembles. She is a member of the Trio Polycordes, which specializes in contemporary music, and has also performed with the Ensemble Cairn and the Ensemble Multilatérale. Vicens is known for her innovative approach to the accordion and her willingness to explore new sounds and techniques. She has commissioned many new works for the instrument and has worked closely with composers to develop new repertoire. Her performances often incorporate extended techniques such as microtonal playing, multiphonics, and percussive effects, which have expanded the possibilities of the accordion as a solo instrument. Despite her success as a classical musician, Vicens remains committed to promoting the accordion as a versatile and expressive instrument that can be used in a wide range of musical genres. She has collaborated with jazz musicians, folk musicians, and electronic musicians, and has performed in a variety of settings, from concert halls to clubs and festivals. In recent years, Vicens has also become involved in music education and has taught masterclasses and workshops around the world. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience with young musicians and helping to inspire the next generation of accordionists. Overall, Fanny Vicens is a talented and innovative musician who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music.More....
