Tarab Cello Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey. The ensemble is composed of four cellists, namely Gökçe Erem, Çağ Erçağ, Didem Başar, and Anıl Eraslan. The ensemble's name, Tarab, is an Arabic word that means "ecstasy" or "enchantment," which reflects the group's aim to create a mesmerizing and captivating musical experience for their audience. The founding members of Tarab Cello Ensemble, Gökçe Erem and Çağ Erçağ, met while studying at the Istanbul University State Conservatory. They shared a passion for classical music and the cello, and they decided to form an ensemble that would showcase the versatility and beauty of the cello. They were later joined by Didem Başar and Anıl Eraslan, who shared their vision and passion for music. Tarab Cello Ensemble's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Baroque to contemporary, as well as traditional Turkish and Middle Eastern music. The ensemble's unique sound is characterized by the rich and warm tones of the cellos, which blend together to create a harmonious and captivating musical experience. Since its founding, Tarab Cello Ensemble has performed in numerous concerts and festivals in Turkey and abroad. The ensemble has received critical acclaim for its performances, which have been described as "mesmerizing," "captivating," and "emotionally powerful." One of the highlights of Tarab Cello Ensemble's career was their performance at the 2014 Istanbul International Music Festival. The ensemble performed a program of classical and traditional Turkish music, which received a standing ovation from the audience. In 2015, Tarab Cello Ensemble released their debut album, "Tarab," which features a selection of classical and traditional Turkish music. In 2016, Tarab Cello Ensemble was awarded the prestigious "Young Musicians on World Stages" award by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts. The award recognizes young musicians who have made significant contributions to the world of music and have the potential to become leading figures in the field. In addition to their performances and recordings, Tarab Cello Ensemble is also committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, and they have collaborated with various organizations to bring classical music to underserved communities.
