His father, Johannes Bach, was a town musician, and his uncle, Christoph Bach, was a court musician. Heinrich Bach was the eldest of his siblings, and he showed an early interest in music. He received his first musical training from his father and uncle, and he later studied with the organist Johann Christoph Altnickol. Heinrich Bach began his career as a musician in Arnstadt, where he served as the town musician. He also worked as an organist at the local church. In 1641, he moved to Erfurt, where he became the organist at the Predigerkirche. He remained in Erfurt for the rest of his life, and he became one of the most respected musicians in the city. Heinrich Bach was a prolific composer, and he wrote music in a variety of genres. He composed vocal music, including cantatas, motets, and hymns, as well as instrumental music, including organ music and chamber music. His music was influenced by the works of his contemporaries, including Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann. One of Heinrich Bach's most famous works is his cantata "Ich danke dir, Gott, in deinem Throne" (I thank you, God, on your throne). The cantata is a setting of Psalm 138, and it was composed for the inauguration of the new organ at the Predigerkirche in Erfurt.
