The Polish Radio and Television Choir of Krakow is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with its exceptional performances for over 70 years. The choir was founded in 1948 by the Polish Radio and Television Corporation, with the aim of promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Poland through music. The choir's early years were marked by the leadership of its first conductor, Stanisław Krawczyński, who was instrumental in shaping the ensemble's sound and repertoire. Under his guidance, the choir quickly gained a reputation for its impeccable vocal technique and expressive interpretations of Polish choral music. Over the years, the Polish Radio and Television Choir of Krakow has been led by several distinguished conductors, including Jan Krenz, Tadeusz Strugała, and Włodzimierz Siedlik. Each of these conductors has brought their unique artistic vision to the ensemble, helping to expand its repertoire and elevate its performances to new heights. One of the choir's most notable achievements was its participation in the 1958 World Youth Festival in Moscow, where it won first prize in the choral competition. This was a significant milestone for the ensemble, as it marked its first international recognition and helped to establish its reputation as one of the finest choral ensembles in Europe. In the decades that followed, the Polish Radio and Television Choir of Krakow continued to build on its success, performing at major music festivals and concert halls around the world. Some of its most memorable performances include a concert at the Vatican in 1983, where the choir performed for Pope John Paul II, and a performance of Krzysztof Penderecki's "St. Luke Passion" at the Salzburg Festival in 2000. The choir has also collaborated with many renowned composers and conductors, including Krzysztof Penderecki, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, and Sir Simon Rattle. These collaborations have resulted in many acclaimed recordings, including Penderecki's "St. Luke Passion" and Górecki's "Miserere." In addition to its international performances and collaborations, the Polish Radio and Television Choir of Krakow has also been recognized for its contributions to Polish culture. In 2008, the ensemble was awarded the Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, in recognition of its outstanding achievements in promoting Polish choral music. Today, the Polish Radio and Television Choir of Krakow continues to be a leading force in the world of choral music, with a repertoire that spans from medieval chants to contemporary works. Its members are renowned for their exceptional vocal technique and expressive interpretations, and the ensemble's performances continue to captivate audiences around the world.
