Birth:1980Simon Zaoui is a French classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born on May 5, 1992, in Paris, France, Zaoui showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He was quickly recognized as a prodigious talent and began studying with renowned piano teachers in France and abroad. Zaoui's early musical education was marked by a series of impressive achievements. At the age of nine, he won first prize in the National Piano Competition in France, and at the age of twelve, he was awarded the prestigious Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship. He continued to win numerous awards and competitions throughout his teenage years, including the International Piano Competition in Ettlingen, Germany, and the International Piano Competition in San Marino, Italy. Zaoui's musical education continued at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied with the renowned pianist and pedagogue Michel Beroff. He also studied with other notable pianists, including Jean-Marc Luisada and Boris Berman. During his time at the conservatory, Zaoui continued to win awards and accolades, including the First Prize in the International Piano Competition in Porto, Portugal, and the Second Prize in the International Piano Competition in Santander, Spain. Zaoui's career as a professional pianist began in earnest in 2014, when he made his debut at the Salle Cortot in Paris. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and Zaoui was praised for his technical skill and musical sensitivity. He quickly began to receive invitations to perform at major concert halls and festivals around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. One of Zaoui's most notable performances was his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2016. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle, and the performance was widely praised for its musicality and technical precision. Zaoui was invited back to perform with the Berlin Philharmonic the following year, this time performing Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2. Zaoui has also made a name for himself as a chamber musician, collaborating with some of the world's most renowned musicians. He has performed with violinist Renaud Capucon, cellist Gautier Capucon, and clarinetist Paul Meyer, among others. In 2018, he formed a piano duo with his longtime friend and collaborator, the pianist Adam Laloum. The duo has performed at major festivals and concert halls around the world, including the Verbier Festival and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. In addition to his performing career, Zaoui is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught masterclasses at the Paris Conservatory, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Juilliard School in New York. He is also a member of the faculty at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where he teaches piano. Zaoui's musical style is characterized by his technical precision and musical sensitivity.
