The Rooke Chapel Choir is a classical music ensemble based at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1956, the choir has become one of the most renowned collegiate choirs in the United States, known for its exceptional musicianship and commitment to the choral arts. The choir was founded by Dr. William Payn, who served as its director for over 30 years. Payn was a respected choral conductor and composer, and under his leadership, the Rooke Chapel Choir grew in size and reputation. Today, the choir is directed by Dr. William Kenny, who has continued the tradition of excellence established by Payn. The choir is made up of approximately 60 undergraduate students from a variety of academic disciplines. Members are selected through a rigorous audition process, and many have extensive musical backgrounds. The choir rehearses several times a week and performs regularly throughout the academic year. One of the highlights of the Rooke Chapel Choir's performance schedule is its annual Christmas Candlelight Service, which takes place in Bucknell's historic Rooke Chapel. The service features a mix of traditional and contemporary Christmas music, and is attended by thousands of people each year. The choir also performs at other campus events, as well as at churches and concert venues throughout the region. These recordings include "A Time for Singing," which features a mix of sacred and secular music, and "Christmas with the Rooke Chapel Choir," which includes traditional Christmas carols and contemporary arrangements.
