Biscantor! is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2003 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for early music. The ensemble is based in the United States and is known for its innovative and engaging performances of music from the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. The founding members of Biscantor! were soprano Laurie Monahan, tenor Dan Meyers, and lutenist and guitarist Scott Metcalfe. All three musicians had extensive experience performing early music and were committed to exploring the rich and varied repertoire of this period. Over the years, Biscantor! has expanded to include a number of other musicians, including additional singers, instrumentalists, and dancers. However, the core trio of Monahan, Meyers, and Metcalfe has remained at the heart of the ensemble, providing leadership and artistic direction. One of the hallmarks of Biscantor!'s performances is their commitment to historical accuracy and authenticity. The ensemble uses period instruments and strives to recreate the sound and style of early music as closely as possible. This attention to detail has earned the group a reputation for excellence and has helped to establish them as one of the leading ensembles in the field of early music. Biscantor! has performed at a number of prestigious venues and festivals throughout the United States and Europe. Some of the highlights of their career include performances at the Boston Early Music Festival, the Berkeley Early Music Festival, and the Tage Alter Musik festival in Regensburg, Germany. In addition to their live performances, Biscantor! has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, "The Art of the Caccia," was released in 2005 and features music from the 14th and 15th centuries. The album was praised for its lively and engaging performances and helped to establish Biscantor! as a major force in the world of early music. Since then, Biscantor! has released several other albums, including "The Lost Music of Canterbury," which features music from the 13th and 14th centuries, and "The Christmas Story," which includes music from the medieval and Renaissance periods. All of these albums have been well-received by critics and have helped to cement Biscantor!'s reputation as one of the leading ensembles in the field of early music. In addition to their performances and recordings, Biscantor! has also been recognized with a number of awards and honors. In 2007, the ensemble was awarded the Noah Greenberg Award by the American Musicological Society, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the performance of early music. The following year, Biscantor! was awarded the prestigious Early Music America/Naxos Recording Award for their album "The Lost Music of Canterbury." Overall, Biscantor! is a highly respected and innovative ensemble that has made significant contributions to the field of early music. Their commitment to historical accuracy and authenticity, combined with their engaging and lively performances, has earned them a devoted following and established them as one of the leading ensembles in the world of classical music.More....
