He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Jacques showed an interest in music from a young age and began playing the piano at the age of four. Jacques received his formal music education at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer, Jan Wijn. He graduated with honors in 1972 and went on to pursue a career as a concert pianist. Jacques made his debut performance at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 1973, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3. The performance was a huge success, and Jacques received critical acclaim for his virtuosic playing and musical interpretation.
