University Choir Lille MUKO is a renowned classical music artist that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 50 years. The choir was founded in 1967 by a group of students from the University of Lille in France, who shared a passion for choral music. Since then, the choir has grown in size and reputation, becoming one of the most respected choral ensembles in Europe. The choir's early years were marked by a series of successful performances in France and abroad. In 1970, they won first prize at the International Choral Competition in Varna, Bulgaria, which marked the beginning of their international career. The choir continued to win numerous awards and accolades, including the Grand Prix at the International Choral Competition in Tours, France, in 1972, and the Gold Medal at the International Choral Competition in Arezzo, Italy, in 1974. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the choir continued to tour extensively, performing in major concert halls and festivals across Europe and beyond. They also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Mozart's Requiem, which was released in 1985. In the 1990s, the choir underwent a period of transition, with several changes in leadership and membership. However, they continued to maintain their high standards of performance and professionalism, and in 1997, they were awarded the prestigious title of "Choir of the Year" by the French Ministry of Culture. In the years that followed, the choir continued to expand their repertoire and explore new musical styles. They collaborated with a range of composers and musicians, including jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani and composer Thierry Escaich. They also performed in a variety of settings, from traditional concert halls to more unconventional venues such as museums and churches. One of the highlights of the choir's recent career was their performance at the 2015 World Choir Games in Sochi, Russia. They competed against choirs from around the world and were awarded a gold medal in the Mixed Choirs category. The choir's performance was praised for its precision, clarity, and emotional depth.
