Ensemble S is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative programming, virtuosic performances, and commitment to promoting classical music to a wider audience. The founding members of Ensemble S were violinist Arnaud Sussmann, violist Paul Neubauer, cellist David Finckel, and pianist Wu Han. All four musicians were highly accomplished soloists and chamber musicians in their own right, and they came together to form Ensemble S with the goal of exploring the rich repertoire of chamber music and bringing it to audiences around the world. Since its founding, Ensemble S has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Ravinia Festival, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Emanuel Ax, and violinist Itzhak Perlman. One of the highlights of Ensemble S's career was its performance at the 2014 Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's annual gala, where the ensemble performed Brahms's Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor with guest artist Yo-Yo Ma. The performance was widely praised for its virtuosic playing and emotional depth, and it cemented Ensemble S's reputation as one of the leading chamber music ensembles of its generation. In addition to its performances, Ensemble S is also committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience through education and outreach programs. The ensemble has worked with schools and community organizations around the world to bring classical music to underserved communities and to inspire the next generation of musicians. Ensemble S has received numerous awards and accolades for its performances and recordings. In 2012, the ensemble was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. The ensemble has also been praised for its recordings, including its 2015 album, "Brahms: The Piano Quartets," which was named one of the best classical albums of the year by The New York Times. Ensemble S's current members include violinist Arnaud Sussmann, violist Paul Neubauer, cellist David Finckel, and pianist Wu Han, as well as guest artists who join the ensemble for specific performances and recordings. The ensemble continues to push the boundaries of chamber music and to inspire audiences around the world with its virtuosic playing and innovative programming.
