He was the son of a musician and grew up in a musical family. His father played the guitar, and his mother sang in the church choir. Manzanero began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Manzanero studied music at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City and later at the Bellas Artes School. He began his career as a composer in the 1950s, writing songs for other artists. His first hit song was "Nunca en el Mundo" (Never in the World), which was recorded by singer Lucho Gatica in 1959. Throughout the 1960s, Manzanero continued to write hit songs for other artists, including "Somos Novios" (We Are Lovers), which was recorded by Perry Como and later by Elvis Presley as "It's Impossible." Manzanero's songs became popular throughout Latin America, and he became known as one of the most important composers of romantic ballads. In the 1970s, Manzanero began recording his own music as a singer and pianist. He released his first album, "Mi Primera Grabación" (My First Recording), in 1971. The album included some of his most famous songs, including "Esta Tarde Vi Llover" (This Afternoon I Saw Rain) and "Adoro" (I Adore You).
