LUX:NM is a contemporary classical music ensemble based in Berlin, Germany. The ensemble was founded in 2009 by six musicians who shared a passion for exploring new sounds and pushing the boundaries of classical music. The founding members were Elisabeth Grimm (flute), Silke Lange (clarinet), Andrea Nagy (violin), Annegret Mayer-Lindenberg (viola), Michael Rauter (cello), and Florian Juncker (trombone). From the beginning, LUX:NM set out to create a unique sound that blended classical instruments with electronic elements and experimental techniques. The ensemble's name, which stands for "Lux Nova Music," reflects this mission, as it translates to "new light music." Over the years, LUX:NM has become known for its innovative and boundary-pushing performances, which often incorporate multimedia elements such as video projections and live electronics. The ensemble has collaborated with a wide range of composers, artists, and performers, and has premiered numerous new works. One of LUX:NM's most notable performances was its 2012 concert at the Berlin Philharmonic, where the ensemble performed works by composers such as Helmut Lachenmann, Georg Friedrich Haas, and Enno Poppe. The concert was praised for its daring and adventurous programming, and helped to establish LUX:NM as one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in contemporary classical music. In addition to its performances, LUX:NM has also received numerous awards and accolades for its recordings. The ensemble's debut album, "Lux," was released in 2011 and received critical acclaim for its inventive and engaging approach to contemporary classical music. The album was nominated for the German Record Critics' Award, and helped to establish LUX:NM as a major force in the world of new music. Since its founding, LUX:NM has undergone some changes in its membership, but has remained committed to its mission of exploring new sounds and pushing the boundaries of classical music. The current members of the ensemble are Elisabeth Grimm (flute), Silke Lange (clarinet), Daniel Sorour (violin), Andreas Voss (viola), Florian Juncker (trombone), and Jan-Filip Tupa (piano). Today, LUX:NM continues to perform and record new works, and remains one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in contemporary classical music. With its unique blend of classical instruments, electronic elements, and experimental techniques, LUX:NM is helping to redefine what classical music can be in the 21st century.
