Role:EnsembleTembembe Ensamble Continuo is a classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of traditional Mexican and Latin American music. The ensemble was founded in 1999 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for the rich cultural heritage of their homeland. The founding members of Tembembe Ensamble Continuo were Carlos Miguel Prieto, Juan Carlos Laguna, and Leonardo Coral. Prieto is a renowned conductor and violinist who has worked with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Laguna is a virtuoso guitarist who has performed with many of Mexico's top musicians, while Coral is a talented percussionist who has studied traditional rhythms from across Latin America. From the outset, Tembembe Ensamble Continuo set out to explore the diverse musical traditions of Mexico and Latin America. The ensemble's repertoire includes everything from traditional folk songs and dances to classical compositions by composers such as Antonio Vivaldi and Johann Sebastian Bach. One of the highlights of Tembembe Ensamble Continuo's career was their performance at the 2006 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. The festival is one of the largest and most prestigious cultural events in the United States, and Tembembe Ensamble Continuo was one of only a handful of Latin American ensembles invited to perform. The ensemble's performance at the festival was a huge success, and they received rave reviews from both critics and audiences alike. The Washington Post described their music as "exhilarating" and "mesmerizing," while the New York Times praised their "virtuosic playing" and "deeply felt interpretations." In addition to their performance at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Tembembe Ensamble Continuo has also performed at many other prestigious venues and events around the world. They have played at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Royal Festival Hall in London, and the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, among others. One of the ensemble's most notable achievements was their collaboration with the world-renowned early music ensemble, Hesperion XXI. The two groups came together to create a program called "Folias Criollas," which explored the connections between traditional Mexican music and the baroque music of Europe. The collaboration was a huge success, and the resulting album, also called "Folias Criollas," was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in 2011. The album features a mix of traditional Mexican songs and baroque compositions, all performed with the virtuosity and passion that has become the hallmark of Tembembe Ensamble Continuo. Over the years, Tembembe Ensamble Continuo has received numerous awards and accolades for their work. In addition to their Latin Grammy nomination, they have also been recognized by the Mexican government for their contributions to the country's cultural heritage. Despite their many achievements, however, the members of Tembembe Ensamble Continuo remain committed to their mission of preserving and promoting the rich musical traditions of Mexico and Latin America. They continue to perform and record music that celebrates the diversity and beauty of their homeland, and they inspire audiences around the world with their passion and artistry.More....
