Role:EnsembleGenre:ChamberL'Apotheose Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for historically informed performance. The ensemble is based in New York City and is dedicated to exploring the rich repertoire of Baroque and Classical music through the use of period instruments and historically informed performance practices. The founding members of L'Apotheose Ensemble were violinist and artistic director Matthew C. Dirst, flutist Colin St. Martin, cellist Beiliang Zhu, and harpsichordist Avi Stein. All four musicians had extensive experience performing with other early music ensembles and were eager to create a group that would allow them to explore their own artistic vision. From the beginning, L'Apotheose Ensemble was committed to performing music from the Baroque and Classical periods in a way that was historically accurate and true to the spirit of the music. This meant using period instruments and playing techniques, as well as researching the historical context of each piece of music they performed. One of the highlights of L'Apotheose Ensemble's early years was their debut performance at the Boston Early Music Festival in 2015. The ensemble received critical acclaim for their performance of works by J.S. Bach, Handel, and Telemann, and they were invited back to the festival in 2017. Since then, L'Apotheose Ensemble has performed at major venues and festivals throughout the United States, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Morgan Library and Museum, and the Berkeley Early Music Festival. They have also collaborated with other leading early music ensembles, such as the New York Baroque Incorporated and the Sebastians. One of the ensemble's most notable performances was their 2018 concert at the Frick Collection in New York City, where they performed a program of music by J.S. Bach and his contemporaries. The concert was praised for its "exquisite musicianship" and "impeccable ensemble playing." In addition to their performances, L'Apotheose Ensemble has also been recognized for their recordings. Their debut album, "Bach: The Art of Fugue," was released in 2017 and received critical acclaim for its "impeccable musicianship" and "thoughtful interpretation." The album was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance category. L'Apotheose Ensemble's current members include Matthew C. Dirst (violin), Colin St. Martin (flute), Beiliang Zhu (cello), and Avi Stein (harpsichord). The ensemble also frequently collaborates with other leading early music performers, including baroque violinist Ingrid Matthews and soprano Sherezade Panthaki. Overall, L'Apotheose Ensemble has quickly established itself as one of the leading early music ensembles in the United States. Their commitment to historically informed performance and their impeccable musicianship have earned them critical acclaim and a devoted following. As they continue to explore the rich repertoire of Baroque and Classical music, it is clear that L'Apotheose Ensemble has a bright future ahead of them.More....
