William Brooks was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Brooks showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of four. Brooks received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Brooks won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. After graduating from Juilliard, Brooks embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, performing with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. He has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra, among others. One of Brooks' most memorable performances was his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2010, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor." The performance was hailed by critics as "a triumph of virtuosity and musicality," and it cemented Brooks' reputation as one of the world's leading pianists. In addition to his work as a soloist, Brooks is also an accomplished chamber musician, and he has collaborated with some of the world's leading string quartets and chamber ensembles. He has performed at major chamber music festivals around the world, including the Marlboro Music Festival, the Ravinia Festival, and the Edinburgh International Festival. Brooks is also a dedicated teacher, and he has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as concert pianists and chamber musicians. Throughout his career, Brooks has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 2012, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given annually to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a significant career in classical music. He has also been awarded the Gilmore Artist Award, the Arthur Rubinstein Prize, and the International Classical Music Award. Despite his many accomplishments, Brooks remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach around the world, and he is committed to sharing his love of classical music with audiences and students alike.
