Rusanda Panfili is a Moldovan violinist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and unique interpretations of classical music. She was born on December 23, 1985, in Chisinau, Moldova, into a family of musicians. Her father, Valeriu Panfil, is a renowned violinist and conductor, and her mother, Svetlana Panfil, is a pianist. Rusanda began playing the violin at the age of five and showed exceptional talent from an early age. As a child, Rusanda studied at the National Music School in Chisinau, where she received rigorous training in classical music. She also participated in numerous competitions and festivals, winning several awards and prizes. In 1999, she won first prize at the International Competition for Young Violinists in Romania, and in 2001, she won first prize at the International Competition for Young Musicians in Lithuania. In 2002, Rusanda was accepted into the prestigious Vienna Conservatory, where she studied with renowned violinist Pavel Vernikov. She graduated with honors in 2007 and went on to pursue a career as a soloist and chamber musician. Her performances have taken her to some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Rusanda has collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also worked with some of the most distinguished conductors, such as Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergiev, and Vladimir Ashkenazy. One of Rusanda's most notable performances was at the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway, where she performed alongside artists such as Queen Latifah, Steven Tyler, and Aloe Blacc. She played a solo violin rendition of the song "Imagine" by John Lennon, which received widespread acclaim. Rusanda is also a passionate chamber musician and has performed with many renowned ensembles, including the Vienna Piano Trio, the Belcea Quartet, and the Emerson Quartet. In 2012, she founded the Panfili & Friends Ensemble, which is dedicated to exploring new and innovative approaches to classical music. The ensemble has performed at numerous festivals and concert series around the world and has released several critically acclaimed recordings. In addition to her performing career, Rusanda is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has given masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is also a member of the faculty at the Vienna Conservatory, where she teaches violin and chamber music. Throughout her career, Rusanda has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to classical music. In 2010, she was awarded the "Moldova's Pride" award by the Moldovan government for her achievements in the arts. In 2015, she was named a "Rising Star" by the European Concert Hall Organization, which recognizes the most promising young musicians in Europe. Rusanda's playing is characterized by its technical brilliance, emotional depth, and unique interpretive style. She is known for her ability to bring new life to familiar works and to discover hidden depths in lesser-known repertoire. Her performances are always captivating and inspiring, and she continues to be one of the most exciting and innovative musicians of her generation.
