One of Azzimonti's most memorable performances was his 1955 performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, also known as the "Emperor" concerto. He performed with the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Herbert von Karajan, and the performance was hailed as a triumph. Azzimonti's interpretation of the concerto was praised for its clarity, precision, and emotional depth. Azzimonti was also a prolific recording artist, and his recordings of the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven are considered some of the finest ever made.
