Mutare Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in London, UK, and is known for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. The founding members of Mutare Ensemble were violinist Marta Kowalczyk, cellist Julia Morneweg, and pianist Maria Marchant. All three musicians had studied at top music schools in Europe and had performed extensively as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. The name "Mutare" comes from the Latin word for "change," reflecting the ensemble's commitment to exploring new and diverse repertoire and pushing the boundaries of traditional chamber music. Since its founding, Mutare Ensemble has performed at major venues and festivals throughout Europe, including the Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Edinburgh International Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with renowned musicians such as clarinetist Michael Collins and violist Lawrence Power. One of the highlights of Mutare Ensemble's career was their performance at the 2014 International Musicians Seminar in Prussia Cove, where they were awarded the prestigious KPMG Prize for Chamber Music. The prize recognized the ensemble's exceptional musicianship and their ability to connect with audiences through their performances. In addition to their live performances, Mutare Ensemble has also released several critically acclaimed recordings, including their debut album "Transfigured Night," which features works by Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg. The ensemble's repertoire is diverse and includes works from the classical, romantic, and contemporary periods. They are particularly known for their interpretations of works by 20th-century composers such as Bartok, Shostakovich, and Messiaen. Mutare Ensemble is committed to promoting classical music to new audiences and has collaborated with organizations such as the London Music Masters and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain to provide educational outreach programs and workshops for young musicians. As the ensemble continues to grow and evolve, they remain dedicated to their mission of exploring new and diverse repertoire and bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world.
