Acies Quartett is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and exceptional performances for over a decade. The quartet was formed in 2008 in Vienna, Austria, by four talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The members of Acies Quartett are violinists Benjamin Ziervogel and Julian Albers, violist Anna Maria Wünsch, and cellist Philipp Comploi. All four musicians have extensive training and experience in classical music, having studied at some of the most prestigious music schools in Europe. The quartet's name, Acies, is derived from the Latin word for "sharpness" or "precision," which reflects their commitment to excellence in their music-making. From the beginning, the quartet has been dedicated to exploring the rich repertoire of chamber music, from the classical masters to contemporary composers. Acies Quartett quickly gained recognition for their exceptional performances, winning several prestigious awards and competitions. In 2009, they were awarded the first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Thessaloniki, Greece, and in 2010, they won the first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan. These early successes paved the way for the quartet's international career, and they have since performed in some of the world's most renowned concert halls, including the Musikverein in Vienna, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. One of the highlights of Acies Quartett's career was their performance at the Salzburg Festival in 2012, where they were invited to perform as part of the festival's "Young Artists" series. The quartet's performance was met with critical acclaim, and they were praised for their "exquisite musicianship" and "impeccable ensemble playing." In addition to their performances, Acies Quartett is also committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. They have collaborated with several contemporary composers, commissioning new works and premiering them in their concerts. They have also worked with young musicians, mentoring and coaching them in chamber music. Acies Quartett has released several recordings, including their debut album, "Mozart and Beethoven," which was released in 2011. The album features the quartet's interpretations of some of the most beloved works by these two classical masters, including Mozart's "Dissonance" Quartet and Beethoven's "Razumovsky" Quartet. Their second album, "Brahms and Schumann," was released in 2014 and features the quartet's interpretations of Brahms' String Quartet No. 1 and Schumann's String Quartet No. 3. The album was praised for its "sensitive and nuanced playing" and "impeccable ensemble work." Acies Quartett continues to be one of the most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles of our time. Their commitment to excellence in their music-making, their dedication to promoting classical music to a wider audience, and their exceptional performances have earned them a place among the greats of classical music.
