The founding members of Estampie were Michael Popp (recorders, shawms, bagpipes, and percussion) and Sigrid Hausen (voice and harp). They were later joined by Ernst Schwindl (vielle, rebec, and percussion), Sarah M. Newman (voice and harp), and Thomas Wimmer (percussion). Estampie's music is characterized by its use of authentic medieval instruments and its commitment to historical accuracy. The group's repertoire includes music from the 12th to the 15th centuries, with a particular focus on the music of the troubadours and trouvères. Estampie has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht. The group has also collaborated with other musicians and ensembles, including the Hilliard Ensemble and the Huelgas Ensemble. One of Estampie's most notable performances was their 1997 concert at the Berlin Philharmonic, which was broadcast live on German television. The concert featured music from the Codex Manesse, a medieval manuscript that contains songs and poems from the 14th century. Estampie has received numerous awards and accolades for their work. In 1992, they won the German Record Critics' Award for their album "Crusaders." They have also been nominated for several Echo Awards, which are the German equivalent of the Grammy Awards.
