Marina Manukian is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. Born in Yerevan, Armenia, on August 15, 1965, Marina showed an early interest in music. Her parents, both musicians, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Marina began her musical education at the age of six, studying the violin with her mother, Anahit Tsitsikian. She later attended the Tchaikovsky Music School in Yerevan, where she continued her studies under the guidance of Professor Eduard Tadevosyan. Marina's exceptional talent was evident from an early age, and she quickly became recognized as one of the most promising young violinists in Armenia. In 1983, Marina was awarded a scholarship to study at the Moscow State Conservatory, where she studied with Professor Yuri Yankelevich. During her time in Moscow, Marina honed her skills and developed her unique style, which combined technical precision with emotional depth. After completing her studies in Moscow, Marina returned to Armenia, where she began her professional career as a soloist with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra. She quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and dynamic violinists in the country, and her performances were eagerly anticipated by audiences across Armenia. In 1990, Marina moved to the United States, where she continued her career as a soloist and chamber musician. She quickly established herself as one of the leading violinists in the country, and her performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional intensity. Over the course of her career, Marina has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors of our time, including Zubin Mehta, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Simon Rattle. In addition to her work as a soloist, Marina is also a dedicated chamber musician. She has performed with some of the world's most renowned chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri String Quartet. Her collaborations with these ensembles have been praised for their musical sensitivity and technical precision. Throughout her career, Marina has received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to the world of music. In 1995, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for the future. She has also been awarded the Dorothy DeLay Fellowship from the Juilliard School, the S&R Washington Award, and the Tchaikovsky Prize. Marina's recordings have also received critical acclaim. Her recording of the Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2003. Her recording of the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Bernard Haitink, was also highly praised. In addition to her work as a performer, Marina is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the Juilliard School. Her students have gone on to successful careers as soloists and chamber musicians, and many have won prestigious awards and competitions.
