Peter Mandell was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with both his parents being professional classical musicians. His father was a renowned cellist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Peter was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Peter's parents recognized his talent and enrolled him in the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division when he was just six years old. He studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. Peter's talent and dedication to his craft were evident from an early age, and he quickly became one of the top students in his class. As Peter continued to grow and develop as a musician, he began to gain recognition for his talent. At the age of 12, he won first prize in the New York State Music Teachers Association Piano Competition. This was just the beginning of a long list of awards and accolades that Peter would receive throughout his career. In 2003, Peter graduated from the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division and went on to attend the Juilliard School's college program. He studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Emanuel Ax. During his time at Juilliard, Peter continued to excel, winning numerous awards and competitions. One of the highlights of Peter's career came in 2007 when he won first prize in the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. This competition is one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world and is held every four years. Peter's win was a significant achievement and helped to launch his career as a professional pianist. Following his win at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Peter began to perform extensively throughout the world. He has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonie. In addition to his performances as a soloist, Peter is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman. Peter is also a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, where he performs regularly with other leading chamber musicians. Throughout his career, Peter has received numerous awards and accolades. In addition to his win at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, he has also won first prize in the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, the Cleveland International Piano Competition, and the Montreal International Musical Competition. He has also been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is awarded to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise. Peter is known for his technical brilliance and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he plays. He is a master of a wide range of repertoire, from the classical works of Bach and Beethoven to the contemporary works of living composers. His performances are always highly anticipated, and he is widely regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation.
