Xenia Meijer is a Dutch classical harpist and singer who has gained international recognition for her unique blend of classical and contemporary music. Born on May 22, 1988, in Amsterdam, Meijer grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was a conductor, so it was only natural that Meijer would follow in their footsteps. Meijer began playing the harp at the age of nine and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and later at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in harp performance. During her studies, Meijer also took singing lessons and discovered a passion for vocal music. Meijer's career as a professional musician began in 2010 when she won the Dutch Harp Competition, which led to her performing as a soloist with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. She has since performed with many other orchestras, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Residentie Orchestra, and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. One of Meijer's most notable performances was at the 2014 Amsterdam Dance Event, where she performed a unique blend of classical and electronic music with DJ Armin van Buuren. The performance was a huge success and led to Meijer being invited to perform at other electronic music festivals around the world. Meijer has also gained recognition for her work as a singer. In 2016, she released her debut album, "Xenia," which features her singing and playing the harp. The album received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Dutch Edison Award. Meijer has since released two more albums, "Harp Fantasies" and "Ludwig's Blues," both of which showcase her unique blend of classical and contemporary music. In addition to her performances as a soloist, Meijer is also a member of the Dutch Harp Duo, which she formed with her sister, Lavinia Meijer. The duo has performed at many prestigious venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Meijer's talent and hard work have been recognized with several awards and honors. In 2013, she was awarded the Dutch Music Prize, the highest honor for a classical musician in the Netherlands. She has also been awarded the Kersjes Prize, the Grachtenfestival Prize, and the Elisabeth Everts Prize.
