Donald Dureau was born on May 15, 1985, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in a musical family, with both of his parents being professional musicians. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical violinist. From a young age, Dureau was exposed to a wide variety of music, and he quickly developed a love for classical music. Dureau began playing the violin at the age of four, and he quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He began taking lessons with his mother, and he soon progressed to studying with some of the top violin teachers in the country. By the time he was a teenager, Dureau was already performing in local orchestras and chamber groups. In 2003, Dureau was accepted into the Juilliard School in New York City, one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. He studied with some of the top violin teachers in the country, including Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. While at Juilliard, Dureau also had the opportunity to perform with some of the top orchestras in the country, including the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Dureau began his professional career as a soloist and chamber musician. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the top young violinists in the country, and he began receiving invitations to perform with some of the top orchestras in the world. One of Dureau's most memorable performances came in 2010, when he performed the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic. The performance was hailed as a triumph, and Dureau received a standing ovation from the audience. The following year, he was invited to perform the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra, another highlight of his career. In addition to his work as a soloist, Dureau is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has performed with some of the top chamber groups in the world, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. He is also a founding member of the Dureau Trio, which has received critical acclaim for their performances of Beethoven's piano trios.
