Role:EnsemblePeriod:BaroqueModernGenre:ChamberOrchestralYale Cellos is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1983 by Aldo Parisot, a renowned cellist and professor at the Yale School of Music. The ensemble is made up of talented cellists who are either current students or alumni of the Yale School of Music. The founding of Yale Cellos was inspired by Parisot's desire to create a unique ensemble that would showcase the versatility and beauty of the cello. He envisioned an ensemble that would perform a wide range of repertoire, from classical to contemporary, and that would push the boundaries of what was possible with the cello. Over the years, Yale Cellos has become one of the most respected and acclaimed cello ensembles in the world. The ensemble has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the globe, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Salzburg Festival. One of the main highlights of Yale Cellos' career was their performance at the 1994 World Cup opening ceremony in Chicago. The ensemble was invited to perform the national anthems of the participating countries, as well as a special arrangement of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" that featured the cello as the lead instrument. Yale Cellos has also collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians and composers of our time. They have worked with composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Joan Tower, and John Adams, and have performed with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Joshua Bell. In addition to their performances, Yale Cellos has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, "Yale Cellos," was released in 1987 and featured works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Tchaikovsky. Their most recent album, "The Cellist's Voice," was released in 2019 and features works by female composers such as Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann, and Rebecca Clarke. The members of Yale Cellos are all accomplished cellists in their own right. Many of them have won prestigious awards and competitions, and have performed as soloists with major orchestras around the world. One of the most notable members of Yale Cellos is Carter Brey, who joined the ensemble in 1984 and served as its artistic director from 1999 to 2007. Brey is a highly acclaimed cellist who has performed as the principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic since 1996. Another notable member of Yale Cellos is Ole Akahoshi, who joined the ensemble in 1990. Akahoshi is a highly respected cellist who has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Tokyo Philharmonic and the New Japan Philharmonic. Other notable members of Yale Cellos include Mihai Marica, who won the first prize at the 2012 Concert Artists Guild Competition, and André Laurent O'Neil, who has performed as a soloist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Métropolitain. In addition to their performances and recordings, Yale Cellos is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly performs in schools and community centers, and has developed a program called "Cellobration," which is designed to introduce young people to the cello and classical music. Overall, Yale Cellos is a truly remarkable ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Their commitment to excellence, innovation, and education has earned them a well-deserved place among the most respected and admired cello ensembles in the world.More....
