Born in Nairobi, Kenya, on 24th March 1959, Bhamra moved to London with his family when he was just a year old. Growing up in a multicultural environment, Bhamra was exposed to a variety of musical genres, including Indian classical music, jazz, and rock. Bhamra's interest in music began at an early age, and he started learning the tabla, a traditional Indian percussion instrument, when he was just six years old. He was trained by his father, who was also a tabla player, and later by the legendary tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha. Bhamra's musical talent was evident from a young age, and he soon became a sought-after tabla player, performing at various concerts and events. In the 1980s, Bhamra started experimenting with fusion music, blending Indian classical music with Western genres like jazz and rock. He formed his band, the 'Kuljit Bhamra Ensemble,' and released his debut album, 'Kuchh Khas,' in 1989. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it established Bhamra as a leading figure in the world of fusion music. He composed the music for the ENO's production of 'A Child of Our Time,' a powerful oratorio that explores the themes of oppression and injustice. The production was a critical and commercial success, and it earned Bhamra widespread acclaim. Bhamra has also received several awards and honors for his contributions to music. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious 'Lifetime Achievement Award' at the UK Asian Music Awards.
