Artist Info
Terra Nova Collectief is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1998 in the Netherlands. The group is known for its innovative approach to classical music, blending traditional repertoire with contemporary works and improvisation. The founding members of Terra Nova Collectief were pianist Marcel Worms, cellist Doris Hochscheid, and clarinetist Nancy Braithwaite. The trio had previously worked together in various chamber music settings and decided to form their own ensemble to explore new musical possibilities. From the beginning, Terra Nova Collectief was committed to commissioning and performing new works by contemporary composers. The group has premiered over 100 new pieces by composers from around the world, including Louis Andriessen, Guus Janssen, and Theo Loevendie. In addition to their work with contemporary composers, Terra Nova Collectief has also explored the intersection of classical music and jazz. The group has collaborated with jazz musicians such as saxophonist Benjamin Herman and pianist Michiel Borstlap, and has performed works by jazz composers such as Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. One of the highlights of Terra Nova Collectief's career was their performance at the 2002 Holland Festival. The group presented a program of works by Louis Andriessen, including the premiere of his piece "La Passione." The performance was widely praised for its innovative approach to classical music and its seamless blending of different musical styles. Terra Nova Collectief has also been recognized for their recordings. The group's album "Terra Nova" was awarded the Edison Classical Music Award in 2004, one of the most prestigious awards in the Dutch music industry. The album features works by contemporary composers such as Guus Janssen and Theo Loevendie, as well as jazz standards by Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. Over the years, Terra Nova Collectief has expanded to include additional members, including violinist Ursula Schoch and percussionist Peter Prommel. The group has continued to push the boundaries of classical music, exploring new sounds and styles while remaining true to their commitment to commissioning and performing new works. Today, Terra Nova Collectief is recognized as one of the most innovative and exciting classical music ensembles in the Netherlands. The group's commitment to new music and their willingness to explore different musical styles has earned them a dedicated following and numerous accolades.More....
