Artist Info
Bella Hristova is a Bulgarian-American violinist who has established herself as one of the most sought-after soloists of her generation. Born in Pleven, Bulgaria in 1985, Hristova began playing the violin at the age of six. Her parents, both musicians, recognized her talent early on and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Hristova's early training took place in Bulgaria, where she studied with her mother, Maria Hristova, and later with Krassimira Jordan, a renowned violinist and pedagogue. At the age of thirteen, Hristova moved to the United States to continue her studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. There, she studied with Ida Kavafian and Joseph Silverstein, two of the most respected violinists of their generation. Hristova's talent quickly became apparent, and she began to win numerous awards and competitions. In 2007, she won the Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand, one of the most prestigious competitions for young violinists. This victory launched her career, and she began to perform as a soloist with major orchestras around the world. Since then, Hristova has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also collaborated with many of the world's most renowned conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Christoph Eschenbach, and Marin Alsop. Hristova's repertoire is wide-ranging, and she is equally at home performing works from the classical, romantic, and contemporary periods. She has a particular affinity for the music of Bach, and has performed his complete solo violin works in a single concert. She has also premiered numerous works by contemporary composers, including David Ludwig, Joan Tower, and Lera Auerbach. In addition to her solo career, Hristova is also an active chamber musician. She is a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and has performed with many other chamber music ensembles, including the Chamber Music Northwest, the Seattle Chamber Music Society, and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. Hristova's performances have been widely praised for their technical brilliance, musicality, and emotional depth. The New York Times has called her playing "a model of taste and tonal refinement," while the Washington Post has praised her "dazzling technique and soulful expressiveness." Hristova has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In addition to her victory at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, she has won the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and the Astral Artists National Auditions. She was also named a BBC New Generation Artist in 2013, and was awarded the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2017. Despite her many accomplishments, Hristova remains committed to her craft and continues to push herself to new heights. She is known for her tireless work ethic and her dedication to her art, and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting and dynamic violinists of her generation.More....
