Mark Gould is a renowned classical trumpet player, conductor, and educator. He was born on April 1, 1958, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in a musical family. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a singer. Gould started playing the trumpet at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Gould's early musical education was at the University of Southern California, where he studied with Boyde Hood and Thomas Stevens. He then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he was a student of William Vacchiano. Gould's time at Juilliard was a turning point in his career, as he was exposed to a wide range of musical styles and began to develop his own unique sound. In 1979, Gould joined the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as principal trumpet, a position he held for 21 years. During his time with the Met, Gould became known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to blend seamlessly with the orchestra. He also began to develop his skills as a conductor, leading the Met Chamber Ensemble in performances of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms.
