Mikko Raasakka is a Finnish classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a conductor, pianist, and composer. Born on May 5, 1978, in Helsinki, Finland, Raasakka showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He went on to study at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. Raasakka's talent as a pianist was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition for his skill and musicality. He won several awards and competitions, including the first prize in the Finnish National Piano Competition in 1996 and the second prize in the International Piano Competition in Rome in 1998. In addition to his piano playing, Raasakka also developed a passion for conducting and composition. He studied conducting with Jorma Panula and composition with Eero Hämeenniemi at the Sibelius Academy, and went on to conduct several orchestras in Finland and abroad. One of Raasakka's most notable performances as a conductor was his debut with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2005. He conducted a program of works by Sibelius, Rautavaara, and Beethoven, and received critical acclaim for his interpretation and musicality. As a composer, Raasakka has written works for a variety of ensembles, including orchestras, chamber groups, and solo instruments. His compositions have been performed by several orchestras and ensembles in Finland and abroad, and he has received commissions from organizations such as the Finnish National Opera and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to his work as a performer and composer, Raasakka is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught piano and composition at the Sibelius Academy and the Turku Conservatory, and has given masterclasses and workshops in Finland and abroad. In 2007, he was awarded the Pro Finlandia medal by the President of Finland for his achievements in music, and in 2012 he was named the Young Artist of the Year by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
