Born in New York City in 1951, Swann showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of six. He went on to attend the Juilliard School, where he studied with the legendary pianist Adele Marcus and earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Swann's career as a concert pianist began in earnest in the 1970s, when he won several prestigious competitions, including the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. These victories launched him onto the international stage, and he quickly established himself as one of the most exciting and dynamic pianists of his generation. Over the course of his career, Swann has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He is particularly renowned for his interpretations of the music of Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy, and has recorded several critically acclaimed albums of their works. In addition to his work as a performer, Swann is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at many of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He is also the founder and artistic director of the Music of the Spheres Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts and fostering cultural exchange. Throughout his career, Swann has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 1999, he was awarded the prestigious Premio Internazionale "Accademia Musicale Chigiana" in Siena, Italy, in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a pianist and educator.
