Angela Draghicescu is a Romanian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born on December 22, 1985, in Bucharest, Romania, Angela showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Her parents, both music teachers, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Angela's musical education began at the George Enescu Music High School in Bucharest, where she studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Viniciu Moroianu. She then went on to study at the National University of Music in Bucharest, where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance under the guidance of professors Viniciu Moroianu and Sandu Sandrin. During her studies, Angela participated in numerous national and international piano competitions, winning top prizes in many of them. In 2006, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Sergei Rachmaninoff" in Morcone, Italy, and in 2008, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Barletta" in Barletta, Italy. These early successes helped to establish Angela as a rising star in the classical music world. After completing her studies in Romania, Angela continued her musical education in Europe and the United States. She studied with renowned pianists such as Boris Berman, Pascal Devoyon, and Jerome Lowenthal, and participated in masterclasses with distinguished musicians such as Murray Perahia, András Schiff, and Richard Goode. Angela's career as a concert pianist began to take off in the early 2010s, when she started performing in major concert halls around the world. She has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Radio Orchestra of Romania, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. She has also given recitals in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Gaveau in Paris. One of Angela's most notable performances was her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2014, where she performed a program of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Enescu. The concert was highly praised by critics, who noted Angela's technical brilliance and musical sensitivity. The New York Times called her "a pianist of exceptional talent and insight," while the Washington Post described her playing as "dazzling and deeply expressive." Angela's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by classical and contemporary composers. She has a particular affinity for the music of Enescu, a Romanian composer and violinist who is considered one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century. Angela has recorded several albums of Enescu's piano music, including a critically acclaimed recording of his complete piano works for the French label Timpani. In addition to her performing career, Angela is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught masterclasses at universities and conservatories around the world, including the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Moscow Conservatory, and the Juilliard School in New York. She is also a faculty member at the National University of Music in Bucharest, where she teaches piano performance and chamber music.
