He was the lead singer of the popular country music band, Dave & Sugar, which was formed in 1975. Rowland's music career spanned over four decades, and he was known for his unique voice, stage presence, and ability to connect with his audience. Rowland's love for music started at a young age, and he began singing in church choirs and local talent shows. He was inspired by the likes of Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash, and he knew that he wanted to pursue a career in music. In the early 1960s, Rowland moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue his dream of becoming a country music artist. Rowland's big break came in 1968 when he was signed to RCA Records. He released his first single, "Movin' On," which became a hit on the country music charts. Rowland continued to release successful singles throughout the 1970s, including "I Just Can't Get Her Out of My Mind" and "It Sure Feels Good." In 1975, Rowland formed the country music band, Dave & Sugar, with fellow musicians, Jackie Frantz and Vicki Hackeman. In 1981, Dave & Sugar won the Academy of Country Music's "Vocal Group of the Year" award, cementing their place in country music history. The band continued to tour and record throughout the 1980s, but they eventually disbanded in 1990. After the breakup of Dave & Sugar, Rowland continued to perform as a solo artist and released several albums, including "Midnight Fire" and "I Sure Hate to See Me Go." He also collaborated with other country music artists, including Tanya Tucker and Dolly Parton. In 2008, Rowland was inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, recognizing his contributions to country music. He continued to perform and tour until his death on November 1, 2018, at the age of 74.
