Jocelyne Cuiller is a renowned French harpsichordist and conductor, known for her exceptional musicianship and interpretation of Baroque music. Born in 1967 in Paris, France, Cuiller grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. Her father was a composer and conductor, and her mother was a pianist and music teacher. Cuiller began her musical education at the age of six, studying piano and music theory. However, she soon discovered her passion for the harpsichord and began studying with renowned harpsichordist Kenneth Gilbert. She continued her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she earned a first prize in harpsichord performance. Cuiller's career as a professional musician began in the early 1990s, when she began performing as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe and the United States. She quickly gained a reputation for her virtuosic playing and her ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of Baroque music. One of Cuiller's most notable performances was her debut at the prestigious Festival de Saintes in 1994, where she performed a program of French Baroque music to critical acclaim. She has since performed at many other major festivals and concert halls, including the Boston Early Music Festival, the Festival de Sablé, and the Wigmore Hall in London. In addition to her work as a soloist, Cuiller is also an accomplished conductor. She has conducted many leading Baroque ensembles, including Les Talens Lyriques, Le Concert Spirituel, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Her conducting has been praised for its clarity, precision, and sensitivity to the music. Cuiller has also made several recordings, both as a soloist and as a conductor. Her recordings of the music of François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau have been particularly well-received, and have won several awards, including a Diapason d'Or and a Choc de Classica. Throughout her career, Cuiller has received many awards and honors for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2001, she was awarded the Prix de la Fondation Simone et Cino Del Duca, one of the most prestigious awards in French culture. She has also been awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Mérite. Cuiller continues to perform and record, and is widely regarded as one of the leading harpsichordists and conductors of her generation. Her passion for Baroque music and her dedication to bringing it to life for modern audiences have made her a beloved figure in the classical music world.
