Larry Geis was born on May 12, 1965, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Geis showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Geis received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of some of the most renowned classical musicians of the time. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1987 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the same institution. Throughout his career, Geis has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Sydney Opera House. He has also collaborated with some of the most renowned orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Geis's most notable performances was his rendition of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the "Emperor Concerto," with the New York Philharmonic in 1992. The performance was widely acclaimed by critics and cemented Geis's reputation as one of the most talented classical pianists of his generation. In addition to his performances, Geis has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1995, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise in their field. He was also awarded the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award in 2002, which is given to pianists who demonstrate exceptional musicianship and creativity. Geis has also been recognized for his contributions to music education. He has served as a faculty member at the Juilliard School, where he has mentored some of the most talented young musicians of the next generation. He has also given masterclasses and workshops around the world, sharing his knowledge and expertise with aspiring musicians. Despite his many achievements, Geis remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and record music, always striving to push the boundaries of what is possible in classical music.
