Amitai Pati is a classical music artist who has made a name for himself in the world of opera. Born on May 22, 1990, in Auckland, New Zealand, Amitai grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Opetaia Foa'i, is a renowned composer and musician, while his mother, Julie Foa'i, is a singer and dancer. Amitai's siblings, Te Vaka and Olivia Foa'i, are also musicians. Amitai's interest in music began at a young age, and he started singing in his school choir. He later joined the Auckland Boys' Choir, where he honed his skills as a singer. In 2008, Amitai auditioned for the New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir and was selected as a tenor. He went on to perform with the choir in various concerts and festivals, including the World Choral Symposium in Argentina. In 2010, Amitai enrolled at the University of Auckland to study music. He continued to perform with the New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir and also joined the University of Auckland Chamber Choir. In 2012, Amitai was selected to participate in the New Zealand Opera School, where he received training in opera singing. He was also awarded the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Scholarship, which provided him with financial support for his studies. Amitai's talent as an opera singer was soon recognized, and he was invited to perform in various productions. In 2013, he made his debut with the New Zealand Opera in the role of the Messenger in Verdi's Aida. He went on to perform in other productions, including Mozart's The Magic Flute and Puccini's La bohème. In 2014, Amitai was selected to participate in the prestigious Lexus Song Quest, a national singing competition in New Zealand. He impressed the judges with his performance of "Una furtiva lagrima" from Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore and was awarded the first prize. The competition provided Amitai with a platform to showcase his talent and helped him gain recognition as a rising star in the world of opera. Amitai's success in the Lexus Song Quest opened doors for him, and he was invited to perform in various international competitions and festivals. In 2015, he participated in the Belvedere Singing Competition in Amsterdam, where he was awarded the third prize. He also performed in the International Vocal Competition in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, and the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, Austria. In 2016, Amitai was invited to perform in the prestigious Cardiff Singer of the World competition in Wales. He impressed the judges with his performance of "Ah! Mes amis" from Donizetti's La fille du régiment and was awarded the Audience Prize. The competition provided Amitai with a platform to showcase his talent to a global audience and helped him gain recognition as one of the most promising young opera singers of his generation. Amitai's success in the Cardiff Singer of the World competition led to various opportunities, and he was invited to perform in various productions and concerts around the world. In 2017, he made his debut with the Royal Opera House in London in the role of Tamino in Mozart's The Magic Flute. He also performed in the New Zealand Opera's production of Puccini's Tosca and the Opera Australia's production of Verdi's Rigoletto. In 2018, Amitai was invited to perform in the Metropolitan Opera's production of Puccini's La bohème in New York. He impressed the audience and critics with his performance as Rodolfo and was praised for his powerful voice and emotional depth.
